Knitting Workshops  at Create 2012

       

Weds 2, 9 & 16^th May           Learn to Knit with Lyndy Renwick

6.30pm – 8.30pm                     This workshop is designed for the complete beginner or for those who simply wish to brush up on existing skills.  We will look at how to hold the needles and yarn correctly and how to work the basic knit and purl stitches.  Knitting basic stitch sample squares we will aim to cover the following: casting on, casting off and understanding tension.  In the final session we will cover simple increasing and decreasing, basic pattern reading, commonly used terms and choosing yarn whilst creating a small project.

Thurs 3, 10 & 17^th May         Toe Up Socks with Sherry James

6.30pm – 8.30pm                     Knitting socks from the toe up has several advantages and is preferred by many knitters.  Come along and knit a pair for yourself.  This class is suitable for people who are comfortable with casting on, knitting and purling.

Monday 14^th May                  Professional Finishing Techniques with Anne Makepeace

10.15am – 4pm                        A very popular workshop designed to help you obtain a really neat finish to your projects and one which does justice to the time you have spent knitting your garment. On the day we will aim to cover the following: Understanding tension, Picking up stitches, 3 needle cast off, blocking & pressing, sleeves, and Mattress stitch,.

Thurs 21^st June                       Sock Surgery & Magic Loop Workshop with Sherry

6.30pm – 8.30pm                     Are you feeling confused about sock knitting? This workshop is designed for anyone who knows how to knit socks.  Maybe you’ve begun a pair, put them down and now can’t figure out how or where to begin.  Sherry will help you get your sock knitting back on track.  Also make your socks more portable and reduce the occurrence of ladders between double points by learning how to magic loop on one long circular needle.  This workshop will focus on your sock project so dig it out and bring it along.

                                                Cost: £15.00 inc all tuition

Thurs 5, 12 & 19^th July          Basic Sock Knitting with Sherry James

6.30pm – 8.30pm                     Learn to knit socks with our resident expert Sherry, using our own unique hand dyed Ba T’at yarn.  This course is for those who are confident knitters but have never tried socks knitted in the round with double pointed needles.

                                                Cost : £45.00 inc tuition and all materials.

Thurs 6, 13 & 20^th Sept         Beyond the Basics – Fairisle Socks with Sherry James

6.30 – 8.30pm                         Using two different hanks of hand dyed yarn we will play with colour and different Fairisle patterns to produce a pair of socks.  Basic sock knitting skills required.

                                                £55.00 inc tuition and all materials (2 hanks of yarn)

Thurs 4, 11 & 18 October      Colour Work Mittens with Sherry James

6.30pm – 8.30pm                     Knit an adult sized pair of mittens using Bat’at Hand Dyed Yarn and traditional Fairisle patterns.

                                                Cost £55.00 inc, tuition and all materials (2 hanks of yarn).

Thurs 8^th & 15^th November   Knit a Moebius Cowl with Sherry James

6.30pm – 8.30pm                     This course will use a clever cast on to knit a fabulous cowl in a moebius shape.  You will learn some basic lace techniques and how to knit on a circular needle.  It is suitable for knitters who are comfortable casting on, knitting and purling.
